About Us

Welcome to Ray's Indian Originals. My mother and father, Ray and Peggy, started Ray's in 1973. Dad was born in 1924 to Stella and Cepheus Belcher. My father's mother was full blood Cherokee, Dad was born in Ozark Alabama. His mother's people were some of the holdouts from the relocation period during the Jackson administration. Mom's folks were Scotch-Irish from the Appalachians Mountains of Tennessee. Dad served on the National Lutheran church board for several years and became the national Lutheran church's liaison to Native American culture during the 1970s. Mom and dad had 4 kids in 5 years and me 11 years later. She decided in the early 1970s to try her hand at raising me and running a small Native American shop.

We are happy with all the great friends and relationships we have made over the years. The native people we have been blessed by knowing over the years have inspired my family. My father was always proud of his native roots. Sometimes it was a struggle to connect to his heritage here in Georgia. However over the years he and my family have seen first hand the gracious and loving nature of the first Americans. We have stayed in many people's homes over the years and are very proud of the friendships we have with various families and tribes across the country.

We have a very unique and diversified collection of native jewelry, pottery, baskets, and weavings. We hope to have you the customer help us to know you and what your interests are so we can better serve you. Dad has gone on to see the Great Spirit. We miss him a lot, but know his spirit still visits from time to time. We will keep his name and vision for our store. Ray's Indian Originals may not be politically correct these days, but when we started nobody seemed to care. I hope to continue to honor my mother and father's wishes to educate and share our knowledge of the people and their inner beauty and spirit that we all desire to know.

Our collection of Native American art is extensive after such a long time in business. On this site we will be showing only a small portion of what we have in the gallery. Please feel free to let us know if there is something you are looking for and we will try to steer you the right way.
